Wellness Challenges Purpose

The purpose of Wellness Challenges is to help the user focus on meeting certain goals such as weight management, nutrition management, or fitness activity.

Wellness Challenges Overview

Wellness Challenges provide a way to encourage users to reach a set goal over a defined time frame. They are configured by the Program Admin. Wellness challenges may be configured for all locations or a single location. 

Once configured, the user will be able to register for the challenge and begin working toward their goal. The following 4 types of wellness challenges may be configured for users at this time: 

  • Fitness Challenge - Focuses on exercises and steps.

  • Hydration Challenge - Focuses on the amount of water the user should drink based on their body weight.

  • Nutrition Challenge - Focuses on the type of food or activities required to meet nutritional goals.

  • Habit Challenge - Focuses on the building of one or more habits throughout the challenge.

To access the assessment configuration, click on Customize > Settings and then click on the dark green tile. The widget tile will appear as shown below in the Program Settings.

Program List Tab

The Program List Tab can be used to view and manage your wellness challenges in the system.

Here, you will see a table containing each set up challenge and can add or edit a wellness challenge. 

Properties Tab

The Properties Tab may be used to configure the widget title, widget visibility, and the tool tip.

These options are for the widget displayed on the main dashboard.

The steps for managing widget properties in the Wellness Challenge Widget are the same as with other widgets. For more information about these steps, please see the Program Settings page.

Setting Up Wellness Challenges

To set up a new wellness challenge in the system, complete the following steps: 

Step 1: Click on Customize > Settings and then click on the dark green widget tile. 

Step 2: Click on Add New Program.

Step 3: Choose a Wellness Challenge Template. Templates may be filtered by selecting a category from the drop-down menu at the top of the screen. 

Step 4: Enter all required information. Items with an asterisk* are required. Each wellness challenge has predefined templates, which may be tailored to your organization and wellness objectives.  

Be certain to configure the Challenge Start DateChallenge PeriodRegistration Start Date, and Registration End Date for the challenge. This information is populated by the chosen template and may need to be changed.

Step 5: Then click on Save and Continue at the bottom of the form. 

The basic configuration settings are the same for all wellness challenges. More information about each of these settings can be found below.

Basic Challenge Settings

The basic challenge settings define the fitness challenge and determines what users see on the dashboard.

Items with an asterisk* are required. The following settings can be modified in this section of the form:

Challenge Name

A name must be entered for the challenge. It will be populated with the selected template, but can be modified.

The challenge name will appear on the home page of the challenge site and in challenge emails.

Challenge Type

This the the type of challenge being set up. It will be populated based on the selected challenge template.

Currently four types of challenges are available: Fitness, Hydration, Nutrition, and Habit.

Challenge PeriodChallenges can be set up for a 4, 6, or 8 week period.
Challenge Start DateThis is the date the challenge will start. Note that the registration period can end after the challenge start date if desired.
Challenge Status

A challenge can have one of three statuses.

  • In Progress - The challenge is still being set up.
  • Active - The challenge is currently active. Users can or have registered and are tracking their progress.
  • Inactive - The challenge is no longer available to users.
Challenge ThemeSelect a challenge theme to help users see their progress throughout the challenge.

User Registration Settings

The user registration settings define a the time period and parameters for the registration process.

Items with an asterisk* are required. The following settings can be modified in this section of the form:

Registration Start Date

This is the date users can begin to register for the challenge.

Note: Registration can be configured to begin before the challenge start date.

Registration End Date

This is the last date users will be able to register for the challenge.

Note: Registration can continue to a specified date after the challenge start date.

Header InstructionsThese are instructions that appear as the first line of instruction on the user registration page.
Office Location Label(Optional) Enter a word that best describes the location. This can be a region, department, location, etc.
LocationDefaults to all locations. This menu may be used to select a specific location for the wellness challenge.
Allow Awards for Employees

If awards are allowed for employees who register for the challenge, this option needs to be checked.

It is disabled (unchecked) by default.

Allow Awards for SpousesIf awards are allowed for spouses of employees, this option needs to be checked. It is disabled (unchecked) by default.

Health Points Settings

The health points settings determine if the user will receive health points for completing activities and what those points will count toward.

Items with an asterisk* are required. The following settings can be modified in this section of the form:

Users who "select" the challenge will be awarded point

Points may be awarded to employees for participating in the program or for completing it.

Select an option from the provided menu. If points should not be awarded, leave as is.

TowardAwarded points may be applied toward a specific program such as Health Risk Assessment, Biometric Sceening, etc. The program can be selected here.

User Progress 

User progress message is used to provide participants instruction on challenge goal and required activities to complete the challenge. It is presented to the user in progress page, challenge info section. 

Wellness Challenge Status

Each wellness challenge has its own status which can be set to the following: 

  • In Progress - The challenge is still being set up in the system.
  • Active - Users are able to register for the challenge and track their goal progress.
  • Inactive - Challenge is not accessible by users and has ended.   

To change the status of a wellness challenge, complete the following steps: 

Step 1: Click on Customize > Settings and then click on the dark green widget tile.

Step 2: Click on a wellness challenge within the Program List Tab.

Step 3: Make certain Challenge Info has been selected in the left panel. 

Step 4: Click on the Challenge Status menu and choose an option (Active, Inactive, or In Progress).

Step 5: Click on Save and Continue to finish.

A wellness challenge will need to be assigned an Inactive status when it is no longer available to users. 

Updating Wellness Challenge Information

To update a wellness challenge, complete the following steps: 

Step 1: Click on Customize > Settings and then click on the dark green widget tile.

Step 2: Click on a  wellness challenge within the Program List Tab.

Step 3: Use the left panel to make selections and the provided forms to change any information for the wellness challenge. 

Step 4: Once finished, click on Save and Continue at the bottom of the form to save your changes.
